Faces of The Union: Charlie, Resident Manager

Just over one year ago, The Union welcomed its very first resident: Charles “Charlie” Healy. But Charlie’s role at The Union extends far past occupant. He is the The Union’s dedicated Resident Manager, making sure that everything is working and looking its best everywhere in the building.

“I started working at The Union while it was still under construction, June of 2015,” Charlie recalls. “I was The Union’s first resident. I moved in a week prior to our first few residents scheduled on August 1st, 2015.”

Since then, much has changed at The Union as new residents continue to move in. Amenities on the second and Penthouse floors have been completed, and The Union is now nearing full occupancy. And a new community is blossoming.

“Before the opening of The Guild and Lounge on the Penthouse floor,” Charlie remembers, “it was a quiet building. Now, everyone uses the upper amenities for gatherings, studying, or just to sit back and enjoy a quiet meal while watching their favorite television shows.”

It’s his fellow residents, whom he describes as “warm and friendly people,” that make up the community Charlie so enjoys. In addition to his neighbors, Charlie loves the accessibility that apartment living in New Haven offers. “[W]e are in the center of everything, restaurants, shopping, and night life.”

While he’s working inside The Union, however, Charlie is laser focused on the job at hand. “[I’m] making sure I provide my residents with the quality of living they would expect from a Park Avenue building,” he says. Charlie takes pride in not only his own work, but that of his team as well. “Our staff is well trained and friendly not only to the residents of The Union, but to the New Haven community in general.”

Living and working at The Union gives Charlie a unique perspective, but we’re fairly certain many residents would agree with his pick for best view in the building. “I like the view of the green from the balconies in our amenity space on the Penthouse floor,” Charlie says. “When you look out at downtown New Haven you see history. It is a breathtaking view.”

Much of that history can be found throughout Yale’s sprawling campus. In addition to the views, the campus is buzzing with activity, something Charlie particularly enjoys. “I like to walk around the Yale campus area,” he explains fondly. “They have a lot of nice shops and dining spots. There is always something to do or see in the area.”
