Summer may be winding down, but the list of things to do in New Haven in August is just heating up! From pies and pizza to Shakespeare and jazz, New Haven is coming alive with good eats and entertainment.
Kicking off on August 18th, Shakespeare in the Park returns to New Haven for its 21st season! This year, the Elm Shakespeare Company will put on 16 free performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Edgerton Park. See the schedule here.
Bring some music to your midweek by stopping by the Blues, Berries & Jam Festival, coinciding with the downtown CitySeed farmers’ market every Wednesday. See the musical lineup here.
Jazz Week also returns in August, beginning on Friday, August 26th and running through Saturday, September 3rd. Catch performances at restaurants and venues across New Haven, including the annual Jazz Fest on the Green presented by JAZZ HAVEN in association with New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, the New Haven Department of Arts, Culture & Tourism, and the New Haven Board of Alders. See art in action at the New Haven Chalk Art Festival on Saturday, August 20th! Talented artists will create their masterpieces in chalk throughout the day in the Broadway area. Come by as a spectator, or sign up to participate! Learn more here.
Returning to the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale from Friday, August 19th to Saturday, August 27th is the Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies! The biggest names in women’s tennis will come to compete right here in New Haven. In addition to the fresh produce, meats, cheeses, and more found at Saturday and Wednesday CitySeed farmers’ markets, there are many ways to enjoy the good eats New Haven has to offer. August kicks off with Pie On9 on Friday, August 5th. Explore several stops along the way, all while sampling delicious pies, snacks, and items for purchase. Have a knack for baking?
